Terry Venables: Former England manager dies aged 80

Former England manager Terry Venables has died aged 80.

Venables at the helm for England’s unforgettable run to the semi-finals of Euro 96 after forging a highly successful club managerial career with Crystal Palace, QPR, Barcelona and Tottenham.

He also made over 500 appearances for Chelsea, Tottenham, QPR and Crystal Palace as a player.

A statement from the family of Venables said: “We are totally devastated by the loss of a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness.

“We would ask that privacy be given at this incredibly sad time to allow us to mourn the loss of this lovely man who we were so lucky to have had in our lives.”

  1. I met Tel once at Heathrow Airport when he was waiting to be picked up. When he saw us looking, he broke out in a big grin, and we shook his hand. Top bloke and a National Treasure 😊😊

  2. I remember when he came to Fort Collins Colorado and did a ventriloquist show and his dummy was throwing some piñatas and lightning bug cupcakes at the audience 🧙🏻‍♂️💃🏼👩🏻‍🦰🎁🎡🎠

  3. I saw Terry, play for Spurs, once or twice.
    I once by chance, i was walking by saw Terry, coming out of the Russell Hotel, Russell Square, London, he crossed the road, got into Mercedes car, then drove away ( just saying ) this was appx 1974. Strange how somethings stick in the mind.
