South African prison might seem like a terrifying prospect. The country’s violent crime rates are amongst the highest in the world – and that’s a culture that runs deep into the country’s desperately overcrowded correctional facilities as well. Beneath a system under strain, though, is an approach in theory geared heavily towards rehabilitation. But as CCTV’s Guy Henderson reports from Kimberley, it’s proving hard to implement.

  1. literacy program and study assistance of prisoners was very effective , deterred  similar behavior among those released and reduced returning prisoners to prison
