Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has apologised to midfielder Kalvin Phillips for not picking him in the Premier League this season – but admits he “struggles to see him” in his starting line-up.

Phillips has yet to start for the treble winners in the Premier League and Champions League this season, limiting his action to just 90 minutes of top-flight football.

  1. Peps right. A bad run straightens you out and focuses the mind. Obviously better to not have a bad run but it's good to find a positive. I'm not a city fan. But u gotta find a positive. In life in general

  2. His just not good enough at that level and that’s the reality of it, good player I’m sure he would do good at villa or a Tottenham who play a system that he fits into but city is class and you need to be an A grade player to get game time there

  3. Philips will NEVER ever play for man city. Pep hired him just to show players whose boss and who makes decisions. Pep never planned to play him. Not once not ever. Its just a game for pep

  4. As a Leeds fan I knew it was a mistake for him to go there. We knew he had to leave us but the idea is to further your career. City signed him so no-one else could have him . He's been sat on his arse for 18 months, that's a good chunk of a career. He needs to go to a club that would suit his style and there are plenty of them who would love to sign him. He needs to get out of there in January and go where he'll be appreciated

  5. We all know that Philips was picked up to remove him from the market, City had the money spare to give him a fat paycheck and keep him out of other clubs. They never needed him.

Everyone told him not to join City, Philips was a staple at Leeds and was in fantastic form. He went to City, stopped playing, and now he's a shadow of the player he was for club and country.

  6. City really can win the treble though 😂😂😂 pep purposely giving his players a break during the early part of the season to now go on an unbeaten run till 30th May 2024. Win everything. He’s playing with world football

  7. Phillips never should have gone there in the 1st place. He doesn;t seem to mind getting paid to sit on the bench though, which makes me question his character.

  8. Sometimes big teams distabalize teams to avoid being challenged by them its a chess game but again Rodrygo is a warrior but he can be more stronger if Kelvin can do the dirty work for him n then Pep plays an attacking middlefileder like Kevin

  9. Kalvin Phillips has to decide what he wants for his career now: sit on the bench and have a chance at winning trophies or play on a starting 11 mid-bottom level Premier League team? He also knows he needs to be playing in order to make the England squad at 28 years old
