Ohanwe Precious has emerged as the Winner in the 2023 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Quiz Competition in Imo State.

The competition, organized by Community & Youth Development Initiatives (CYDI) with funding support from the Youth Network for Community & Sustainable Development, marked a significant event in commemorating the 2023 16 Days of Activity to End Gender-Based Violence under the Youth Anti-FGM Reignite Mini-Grant Project Phase 2.

This impactful 1-Day End of Term SGBV Quiz competition unfolded at Okohia Secondary School, Okohia in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State brought together eager participants, predominantly trained School Peer Educators in Okohia Secondary School responsible for conducting peer sessions addressing Sexual and gender-based Violence (SGBV) within their community and other students of the school

Ohanwe Precious demonstrated exceptional knowledge and dedication, securing the top position in the competition. Okorocha Success claimed the second spot, while Benedict Paul attained the third position. Expressing gratitude to the event’s sponsors, the winners pledged to persist in organizing peer sessions to eliminate all forms of SGBV including Female Genital Mutilation in their community.

Mrs. Nancy, the Club Matron representing the School Principal, extended appreciation to CYDI for selecting Okohia Secondary School as the pilot beneficiary for the quiz competition. She assured CYDI of the school’s commitment to sustaining the project through the Peer Educators Club.

Felxfame Enisire, the Executive Director of Community and Youth Development Initiatives and the State Coordinator of the Youth Anti-FGM Network in Imo State, underscored the crucial impact of addressing SGBV issues among the youth population. He emphasized the need to combat child trafficking, rape, child pornography, and Type 4 Female Genital Mutilation, highlighting the roles young people can play in preventing these forms of violence in Imo State. The Youth Anti-FGM Network Reignite Mini-Grant will comprehensively address these issues, starting from Isiala Mbano LGA.

Enisire announced CYDI’s plans to extend its efforts, rolling out additional activities in Isiala Mbano LGA to encourage more youth groups to join the movement to end all forms of Sexual and gender-based Violence in Nigeria.

This quiz competition is a pivotal step in the broader mission to cultivate a safer and more informed environment for the youth. It empowers them to combat and prevent SGBV within their communities actively, aligning with the overarching goal of creating a society free from the scourge of gender-based violence.
