The Sunday Times’ Jonathan Northcroft and The Mirror’s Darren Lewis discuss reports that Liverpool have added Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to their shortlist to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen head coach – and former Liverpool midfielder – Xabi Alonso is also in the running, but is said to also be attracting interest from Bayern Munich.

  1. The narrative of a coach not wanting or being reluctant to replace a successful manager at a club for fear of failure and using the likes of Arsenal after Wenger and Utd after Fergie as a basis for this narrative as it applies to LFC is just laughable. Why? Well, because the LFC squad is in a far better position than Arsenal's and Utd's at the time of Wenger and Fergie leaving. So whether Alonso, Amorin or any good coach/manager comes in, he would not be burdened with the expectations of revamping the team, as there's no need for that.

  2. I fail to comprehend why replacing Klopp is considered impossible, and I struggle to see the parallels drawn between this situation and that of Ferguson. Ferguson's remarkable record boasts 38 trophies, including 13 league titles, while Klopp's rather modest tally stands at 7 trophies, with just one league title. There is simply no basis for comparison; surpassing Klopp's trophy record at Liverpool should not be a challenging feat.

O God, O our Lord, strengthen the hearts of the sanctified in the face of aggression, day and night. O God, protect Al-Aqsa, O Most Merciful of the Merciful. O God, establish us on earth as You empowered those before us, and pardon us and make our hearts firm in your love, O Most Merciful of the Merciful. O God, this condition of ours is not hidden from You, and our weakness is evident in Your hands, so grant us victory with Your victory. Forgive us our sins and cover our faults, O Most Merciful of the Merciful

  5. No interest in Nagalsmann to Liverpool whatsoever. He's an overrated oddball imo. However, Amorim is a very appealing & an excellent plan B. He might even be plan A over Alonso if you assess it with head instead of heart. Regardless, Alonso & Amorim are the front runners & either would be great progressive appointments for me.

  6. Klopp's exit still leaves a huge question on what really happened behind the scenes, especially with the owners FSG. There is still no formal comment from John Henry about this.

  7. THere is a bit similaritys between now and when Paisley took over from Shankley. A more down to earth person taking over from at larger than life person – and remember how it whent for Paisley 😉

  8. I don’t get these comments about not wanting to take over after Klopp, he’s leaving a very good base to build on for the next manager to come in and put their stamp on this team and keep pushing for major honours!

  9. @summerpool I heard what he said, but do you honestly think if FSG offered him the job he'd refuse? He even referenced Paisley following Shankly. If Alonso doesn't come then there are maybe 3 other options at best and Nagglesman is hugely overrated in my opinion. People change their minds, Klopp himself just has after signing a new deal last season.
