Jurgen Klopp said Liverpool will “show their class” over Joel Matip’s ACL injury, and hinted he may not have played his last game for the club.

Matip was taken off 20 minutes from the end of the Reds’ barnstorming 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday, with scans later showing he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

The 32-year-old is unlikely to recover in time to play any further part in Liverpool’s season and is out of contract at the end of June, meaning he will not play for the club again unless he signs a new deal.

  1. I expect that Klopp will stick with Kelleher for the trip to South London to face Palace tomorrow lunchtime.

Probably go with Endo, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai in midfield.

Trent, Konate, Van Dijk and Tsimikas at the back with Salah, Diaz and either Gakpo or Jota in unless of course Nunez is fit to play.

  2. Not the best on the ball but man people really don't know how to judge defenders. It's not a fancy job to be a CB but he has been such a big part in the defense and people should not judge just from a silly own goal, couldve happened to anyone.

  3. Nonsense.
Are they gonna magically take his leg off and replace it. No.
A ruptured ACL takes 6 months to heal before you can even walk again.
Matip’s contract runs out in the summer so his Liverpool career is over sadly, regardless of what they say.
He’s always been injury prone and he won’t be offered a new deal at 33 years of age.

  4. Matip has been one of my favourites as Liverpool fan because he's consistent, he's reliable and he contributes to the team offensively. He's an excellent team player and he's our second best defender. I'll be happy to extend his contract till 2025

  5. I've always told my fellow Liverpool fans that Klopp isn't a checkbook manager. He prefers developing players over buying them. If Klopp owned Liverpool, Milner, Firmino, Keita, and Chamberlain would still be in the club. Klopp is a very loyal manager.

  6. Best free signing of all time, literally won every single trophey in football since joining us. Give him another contract I say. What a great player to have in and around the club and he has made a career out of proving people wrong …season in season out … the latest is .. hes finished but if any player can come back from an ACL at his age, its Joel … deep affection Liverpool fans have for him … a better progressive carrier of the ball from defence is hard to find in world football …. criminally underated outside of Liverpool, almost unoticied by pundits … when he is fully fit, many times he is better than VVD

  7. Liverpool acted dutifully with Ox Chamberlain when he was out for a season, extending his contract by a year to compensate and I see no reason not to afford Joel the same courtesy.
Suitable reward for the great service he has given the club during his time with them.

  8. Liverpool supporters need to seriously begin appreciating Klopp, even 3 or 4 years ago he could have walked into the coaching job of any club in the world including his own national team. When he’s gone I suggest he will be irreplaceable and LFC may not see his like again.

  9. I am a football novice, so please bear my ignorance.

Can someone inform as why Thiago Silva would be an impossible get, assuming Chelsea drop out of race for European slots by January, or circumstances like that?
