Eddie Howe says both he and his Newcastle team are “devastated” with their early exit from the Champions League and Europe, especially as his side “lost the power” to show their full worth on the biggest stage.

Newcastle thought they were heading into the Champions League last 16 when they lead AC Milan 1-0 on Tuesday night, as Paris Saint-Germain struggled to beat Borussia Dortmund.

However, a surprise Milan comeback saw the Italian side run out 2-1 winners, consigning the Magpies to bottom spot in Group F and an early exit from European football.

  1. Since Newcastle won't make any more money from champions League, and likely not make it to the next one. How will they justify any major signings next season. FFP monitor active 😂😂😂

  2. Newcastle get dumped out the champions lge and is all positive wit manu these bais deluded hyprocrite pundits media outlets and rival fans are so obsessed wit manu they cant stop tlkin bout dem biasness

  3. Seriously Newcastle shouldn't be in UCL at all, nobody & I mean hell nobody GIVE A DAMN CARE to this team, they think they can play easy against those PSG, Milan & Dortmund, sorry, Newcastle IS NOT AN ELITE team at all, nobody rate them, why so surprise then, it's not a hard thing to think

  4. It's part of the learning process's initial steps!
How long/number of attempts did it take Manchester, United/City, or Chelsea to win their groups & then the Cup?
Do better SkySports News with your presentation, given your pedigree – very lazy presenting!

  5. Does Merson have selective context/memory or something?

Has he not noticed that it’s generally unusual for a team to have to field the same 10-11 players over 5 or 6 games, let alone 5 or 6 games in just over a 2 week period, especially unusual that a team can barely make a meaningful substitute over that period

Or did he really expect a squad that poorly rested with 7 players from the Bruce era that were battling relegation and a 17 year old in the middle of the pitch (in some of his first few competitive senior games) to be hammering a rested full strength AC Milan squad.

It’s baffling how everyone is painting the picture that Newcastle have underperformed…many of them people that thought Newcastle would be battered in each game when the group was announced

Instead they got a draw and clean sheet at the San Siro, had a score against PSG over two fixtures that amounts to 5-2 and statistically dominated Milan in the game last night but weren’t clinical with their chances

As many others have said if anything this now gives Newcastle a chance to rest players, rebuild with recruitment and properly attack the domestic competitions while a lot of their rivals have European commitments
