South Sudan’s opposition leader and Vice President designate Riek Machar has returned to the country as part of a deal to end a conflict which has left thousands dead. According to his spokesman Machar is now at the rebel military headquarters in the eastern town of Pagak. He is expected in the capital Juba next week to resume the post of vice-president as part of a peace deal signed last year.
About a dozen suspected militants from the al Qaeda-linked group al -Shabaab were killed in U.S. air strikes in southern Somalia on Monday and Tuesday.
President Buhari met and held talks with his host President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in various fields including infrastructure, agriculture, energy and trade.
The elections in Chad allowed voters to freely choose their leaders without fraud. That’s according African Union observers present during the election. The AU observers report also added that there were some anomalies with most staff at polling stations not knowing much of what is needed during such electoral operations.
